Pause and Reflect January 2018

Jesus said to let the little children come to Him. The disciples “scorned” Jesus. Imagine that!!

Spoil the Child

We have just returned from Michigan visiting our 5 grandchildren and their parents. We like to love on our grandchildren. Some might call it spoiling. I call it showing them how important they are in God’s eyes.

Spare the rod and spoil the child… Do not withhold the rod of correction…Talk about abuse; these phrases lifted from scripture have been misused and abused. Rods are more often used to guide than used as a instrument of physical punishment. The rod of discipline may have some application toward corporate physical punishment. But consider the function of a rod. Pistons in an automobile engine have rods that guide and force other objects in the same fashion not deviating. Other machinery has guide rods that keep the mechanism performing the same way all the time. Guide rods hold bridges from dangerously swaying.

Remember to pray that we will faithfully encourage and remind those we work with the truth of Psalm 27:10, “Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close.” This was never my experience but many I work with are dealing with neglect and identity issues from childhood. I’m an Ambassador for Christ to share the good news of God’s love.

Remember to pray for my parents as they pack and prepare to move near us.

My mom shared this cartoon with me. Pray for my parents as they are selling their house and moving closer to us in Tennessee.

13 Years and Counting

We are entering 13 years of ministry; eight as Mobile Mission Ministry. 2018 offers many new opportunities to remain faithful to the task at hand. Your prayer partnership and financial participation brings you right along side what we do each day, week, and month.

Thank you for being a part of this ministry. Much of what we do is guiding those who have had little or no guidance. We guide teams in a common task or goal. We share God’s love. We shepherd, and guide individuals toward a relationship with Christ.

Vision for 2018

Our Pastor shared his vision for our church in 2018 and really beyond; Core Values that will always guide us: Two of them summed up this way 1) The Gospel first and always, 2) We are uniquely called. What is the vision God has given you for 2018?

He Listens

“Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!” (Ps 116:2 NLT); that is if we aren’t staring down at our cell phones but looking up to Him. There are so many crises going on in people’s lives and in the public arena. Prayer is our BEST and sometimes ONLY resource. A guest pastor recently challenged and encouraged us to pray scripture. It’s simple. Slow down. Read a verse. Then personalize (or apply) it to your life situation.

Slow Down

There are so many crises going on in people’s lives and in the public arena. Prayer is our BEST and sometimes ONLY resource. A guest pastor recently challenged and encouraged us to pray scripture. It’s simple. Slow down. Read a verse. Then personalize (or apply) it to your life situation.

I applied this verse(s) to a specific situation I had faced the day before. “Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. Then people who are not believers will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others.” (1 Thessalonians 4:11-12) The purpose for the situation I faced was to be content and to set an example for those who are not believers. That made bad news, good news to me.

Undying Passion

HP-SlaveryCandy and her associates rescue women caught up in the sex trafficking industry. Pray for her protection each day as she ministers to these.

Candy has been feeding the homeless and near homeless for many years to gain the opportunity to share the love of Christ and rescue women out of hopeless situations.

We helped a group of regular volunteers feed them and shared the gospel with them before handing out BBQ , baked beans, and mac & cheese provided by a popular local establishment for a generous discount to our group.

Candy depends on the generosity of like-minded believers. Annually she sponsors a 5k Fun Run held at night. You can run, walk, or crawl in this laid back event. Live music and entertainment. If you’re local here’s a lionk to register or donate: www.LastCall4Grace.org (chick on the banner at the top).

Consistent

Steven was so proud of himself (and rightly so) for not being late for 8 weeks of work. The company gave him a Wal-Mart Gift Card in recognition of his consistency. He loves his custodian job at the hospital. He’s working on transitioning to a safe apartment but is currently in a motel for the homeless and sleazy. Drugs are everywhere. Pray for Steven’s safety and that he stays focused. Pray that he finds a church nearby to begin to make friends who will be a positive influence.

Parents in Transition

Pray for my parents. They are in a place of transition. Pray for wisdom, peace and clarity for direction. My dad’s health is really failing. This puts a real strain on my 87-year-old mother.

Ministry in Transition

Pray for our ministry. We are in a place of transition; exploring and expanding ways to be more effective. Likewise we need wisdom and clarity. God has all along given us peace. We praise Him for that. James 2:… says to ask for wisdom and He will give it to you.
